Both the setting of the exhibition and the conservation of the objects on display were sponsored by CARFEOUR-MARINOPOULOS in the memory of Ioannis P. Marinopoulos. For Thessaloniki the late Byzantine is a period of spiritual progress, theological quests and social movements which resulted in growth in the arts, especially painting, with special impact in Mount Athos and the neighboring Slavic people. In the exhibition representative artefacts of the period are presented, such as wall painting, marble images in relief, as well as objects of devotional and everyday use. Series of painted and relief artworks of burial destination provide information on the burial customs, the art and the portraits of the era.
